Program Overview
The Customer Battery Energy Sharing program from LUMA is a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) that helps homeowners with solar + battery storage save money and get paid for supporting the grid. By allowing your battery to discharge small amounts of power during high-demand periods, you help prevent grid strain—and you earn rewards for doing so!

How Incentives Are Calculated
The incentive is based on the actual energy discharged from the battery during grid events. The program pays $1 per kWh. Here is an example calculation for a 10 kWh battery with a reserve capacity set at 20%, leaving 8 kWh available for discharge:
Total Annual Energy Contributed:
50 events × 8 kWh = 400 kWh
Annual Incentive Earned:
400 kWh × $1/kWh = $400 per year
