Canadian Solar and EnergyHub Partner to Accelerate VPP Growth

Sep 11, 2025

Integration enables EP Cube to participate in utility flexibility programs across North America

KITCHENER, ON, August 28, 2025 - Canadian Solar Inc. (the "Company" or "Canadian Solar") (NASDAQ: CSIQ) and EnergyHub, a leading provider of grid-edge flexibility solutions, have partnered to integrate EP Cube, a residential energy storage system designed and developed by Eternalplanet, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar, with EnergyHub’s Edge Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) platform. The integration enables EP Cube to participate in Bring Your Own Battery (BYOB) virtual power plant (VPP) programs offered by any of EnergyHub’s 80+ utility clients, supporting grid reliability and affordability for all electricity customers.

Residential storage has become an increasingly important asset as utilities develop strategies to meet increased electricity demand. U.S. residential battery capacity grew by 64% in 2024, reaching more than 3,028 MWh of installed capacity. Utilities partnering with customers on BYOB programs are accessing an unparalleled flexibility resource that can deliver multiple grid services with minimal customer impact.

Through this partnership, EP Cube owners in the service territories of participating utilities can enroll in BYOB programs and receive financial rewards for supporting the grid. EP Cube is developed into a smart energy coordinator, integrating rooftop solar and storage batteries to align grid needs with user behaviors. During heatwaves that drive up electricity prices, EP Cube can switch to “TOU mode,” optimizing its charge cycles. The monetary benefits of program participation can be substantial. Residential customers have the potential to earn thousands of dollars over the lifetime of the system, significantly offsetting the cost of ownership.

“VPP ecosystem unlocks additional value from customers’ storage investment,” said Susanne Pflug, Chief Commercial Officer of Canadian Solar's Home Energy Storage Business Unit, “Partnering with EnergyHub enhances and extends the benefits of EP Cube, giving customers new opportunities to contribute to a resilient, reliable grid.”

“Our partnership with Canadian Solar will help unlock the full value of VPPs for our utility clients,” said Ella Wynn Roseman, Head of Battery at EnergyHub. “The large capacity and flexibility of batteries, paired with minimal customer impact of program participation, make them essential to scaling utility programs.”
